Thousands of Egg laying chickens are dying and already skyrocketing prices are still climbing. In many stores, there are no more eggs. Bird Flu, formally known as the Avian Influenza HPAI H5N1, has been deemed the culprit. More than 157 million wild aquatic birds, commercial poultry, and “backyard or hobbyist flocks” have been infected with avian flu, according to the USDA's latest data Bird Flu which has been making rounds since 2022, is caused by an infection of a Type A virus. HPAI H5N1 bird flu virus is highly contagious between birds, forcing unhappy chicken farmers to kill their precious fowl to contain the virus. Though protective measures have been taken by multiple other organizations including the CDC and USDA, it is still not enough to protect these poor birds.
