Our MUN students have been working long and hard preparing for the Pacific Model UN
conference and finally got a chance to apply their knowledge. The team left for Honolulu on
Thursday, November 21st, and got a chance to experience Hawaiian culture. On the first day, the
club high schoolers visited the Ala Moana shopping center, saw the Byodo-In Temple, and also
ventured through the Waikiki shopping center. The second day of the conference gave our students
the opportunity to immerse themselves in Hawaiian culture by making leis, learning about the
independence of Hawaii, and learning hula dance! During the conference, club members debated
topics critical in today’s world such as combatting local pirates, increased inclusion for those with
disabilities, and ethical developments of science and technology, amongst others. After 3 days of
debate, the club was ready for the awards ceremony. The results of the awards ceremony were
extremely impressive and reflected all of the hard work the high school members put into the
conference. Aditi Jain, Zela Maysmith and Aditya Subramanian all won verbal commendations for
their contributions to the conference! Sam Regi and Jessica Jaczynski won Best Research and Divya
Ganesan won the coveted Outstanding Delegate award! Overall, these wins established Stratford
Preparatory as the best small delegation of the conference! The club looks forward to going and
learning from more conferences and will shortly be hosting their own middle school conference.
