The Sixth grade rockstars!

Danial Eskenasi - Nov. 2024

Performing arts are traditionally defined as a range of artistic activities performed in front of a live audience, including theater, drama, music, and dance. It can expand to a circus, opera, pantomime, stand-up comedy, marching band, and a variety of related activities in the presence. In the past I have been part of a couple of theater shows back in my elementary school, Golden Hills. However, it wasn’t until Ms. Cullen's class that I realized I have a real passion for the performing arts.

Three major aspects in this great show captured my attention:

First - personal techniques including memorizing scripts, lip-syncing, and choreography. Fabulous 6th graders, or “artists” tried to resemble their favorite rock stars by wearing similar clothes and following their choreographic pattern. Some of them while lip syncing basically sang the selected song.

Second, you can see the depth of teamwork. Lots of group performances were well synchronized. Although they were dancing and singing, they were well aligned to create enough space for team members in a way that Ms. Cullen could pay attention to the performance of all members.

Lastly, the performances were very entertaining. Fun extended from putting on marshmallow hats to wearing skeleton costumes.

Now let’s review the winning songs which I suggest listening to when you have time:

6E: Jade, Alannie, and Weiwei" performed "Espresso" by Sabrina Carpenter (2024). The song was about self-confidence, written by Carpenter along with Amy Allen, Steph Jones, and Julian Bunetta.

6E: Danial presented "Dreamers" by South Korean singer Jungkook (2022) produced as part of the 2022 FIFA World Cup official opening ceremony.

6F: Logan performed "Bye Bye Bye" by American boy band NSYNC written and produced by Kristian Lundin and Jake Schulze (2000). The song takes you to the end of a romantic relationship.

6F: Pavania presented "Bad Blood" by Taylor Swift (2014). She wrote the song with the Swedish producers Max Martin and Shellback. This song describes betrayal by a close friend.

6I: Daniel, and Alex performed "We Are Young" featuring Janelle Monáe recorded by American pop rock band Fun (2012). According to Lead singer, “Nate Ruess,” the song was inspired by a part of his life he was not proud of. I believe Ms. Cullen’s performing art class was inspiring and fun.

We are going to remember all the fun activities including puppet shows and rock stars. Thanks, Ms. Cullen!
