Q: What is the most special aspect about the Winter Concert?
A: The most special aspect of the Winter Concert is that the students have the
opportunity to bring a wonderful performance to not only their families, but also to
their fellow Stratford students and teachers. With a strong sense of community and
celebration, we have grown together as musicians. Our music students succeed
together. I also like to think that we help kick off the holiday spirit for our Stratford
community!
Q: Why did you decide to do a number with orchestra and show choir combined?
A: Two very special things about music and performing are collaboration and
community. I also took part in music performances throughout middle and high
school, but I remember that the different groups (band, orchestra, and choir) always
felt separated. With Stratford’s music program, I want to foster the strongest sense
of community within our music program that extends beyond into the rest of the
Stratford community to establish our campus’ unique school culture.
Q: What is your favorite part of the whole experience?
A: Watching the development of both individual and ensemble musicianship is
wonderful. I have a personal connection to this experience having participated in
school music programs myself for so many years that it brings me joy to bring that
same experience to the next generation of musicians.
Q: How did you decide which students get to play which instruments?
A: Some students enter Orchestra already knowing how to play one of the instruments
offered in the class, but many students also enter Orchestra with the intention to
start a new instrument for the year. Having prior music experience on other
instruments such as piano is most helpful to incoming students, but not required.
