On Monday, January 6th, a historic event occurred in Canada. Prime
Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, resigned. You might be thinking,
who is Justin Trudeau, what is going on in Canada, and what will
happen now?
Justin Trudeau, is the oldest son of ex-Prime Minister Pierre
Trudeau. Justin has been a high school teacher, snowboard
instructor, and he even acted in a movie about Canada and its role
in WWI! Eventually, he pursued a path in politics. Since 2008 he has
been a member of Parliament, and in 2013 he became the leader of
Canada’s Liberal Party. In 2015, he ran for Prime Minister in the
federal election and led the Liberal Party to victory, even though he
had a lack of experience. He won because he promised to bring
more moderate values and other changes, after years under the
conservatives.
As for what prompted his resignation, Trudeau has been losing
popularity and his party has been declining primarily due to
inflation and immigration concerns. His Deputy Prime Minister
Chrystia Freeland also recently resigned, citing Trudeau’s “political
gimmicks” and President Trump’s growing aggression.
