Q&A With Ms. Robledo

Katelyn Nguyen - Sept. 2024

Presenting our new high school counselor - Ms. Robledo! Ms. Robledo is passionate about guiding students and helping them achieve their goals, whether it be in academics or future career goals! Both she and Mr. Cheng will help the high schoolers with their journey to college.

Q: What inspired you to become a school counselor?

A: "I was in high school, and part of a program called Cal-SOAP which helps first generation students get into college, scholarship programs, etc. It was super helpful for someone to help guide me through the process, and I wanted to help someone else in the same way!"

Q: What has been one of your greatest driving forces whilst working in education? A:"Compassion. Before coming here, I worked almost exclusively for first generation students and nonprofit organizations, and I soon realized that I was one of the only kind faces that get seen in a day, which inspired me to become even kinder and more considerate! Leading with compassion can take you farther than anything else. Forming connections and networking, too."

Q: What is your greatest joy when it comes to counseling and guiding students?

A: "I love when my students start seeing themselves the way that I see them. I know there's a lot of pressure, especially for high achieving students. When they find their right fit and I can see that happen, I think that's the best thing."

Q: Do you have any advice or words of motivation for students who are unsure of what to pursue in the future?

A: "I think it's a marathon not a sprint, to keep going and take it day by day especially when you don’t want to do it, going through the motions can be helpful, also it's about where you want to go, not about anyone else. You need to find a place that works best for you, not what place others think looks the best."
