SPB Cross Country Team

Zela Maysmth - Oct. 2024

For the beginning of this season, Coach Purnell has organized SPB’s Cross Country team with a rigorous, yet rewarding program to help developing runners succeed in the multiple meets planned. The team is humble but strong, and its small size allows for easy travel in the Stratford van. Now that our team has access to an easy form of travel, runners can experience real terrain in order to practice and prepare. Every practice is a unique challenge now with days for cross-training in the weight room, running in alternate locations such as Vasona Lake County Park, and timed out-and-backs that build team spirit. The team was only warming up with the first meet of the year on September 13, with many more planned for later this season.

Members of the Cross Country team were in good spirits after completing their first meet; overall, the reception was great. Out of the whole team, there were three freshman girls, one freshman boy, and one sophomore girl competing in separate races. Also, we are happy to announce that the team has recruited new members since then and is still looking for more. If you are interested in participating in this season’s competitive, team-building races, cross country is for you!

Girls Volleyball

Coach Travis - Oct. 2024

The JV team’s record is 12-8 with the majority of the games being against varsity opponents! Against JV teams, they’ve only lost twice. Their opposite Siddhi Sabnis is a force to be reckoned with both defensively and offensively. Nia Jacobs also leads the team in serving too. Frosh/Soph welcomed the new Coach Kiera, and their improvement has been inspiring, with everyone’s serves now staying consistent. Zoe Zhang leads the team in attacks, and Anna Tom and Viraj Desai are the main blockers. MS Volleyball, with three teams, has shown consistent success. A-Team’s leaders Cynthia and Angela demonstrated true leadership skills, fostering open communication and creating every opportunity to win. There are too many highlights from the players to count. This was the first time Stratford Blackford has won its own tournament, having three players on the all-tournament team. B-Team leader Anna always came in with a positive attitude, motivating all her teammates each and every game. This has been a team who adapted to their second coach and continued to win. C-Team has also shown their prowess by persevering.

Flag Football

Coach Ruiz - Oct. 2024

What an amazing season by the 2024 Flag Football Team. Offense leader Rhea seized every opportunity to lead her team to the end zone while defensive leader Shubhi called formations to stifle the opposing offense. True highlights include Jerome’s pick-6, Mason’s INT for 2 points, and Neil chasing down the opposing QBs and anyone else trying to break through the line of scrimmage. Coach Peters truly gives each of his athletes a chance to succeed and develop leadership skills. Every season, we see new students bring their passion for the sport into every play. Special shoutout to Tavish for being the WR1 this year and leading the team to victory against Fremont. Vihaan Apte showed his versatility on offense and defense, being a true game changer when put into the game against Valley Christian with his key INT. Arjan G. had his own highlights, including his last-second TD for the win against Pleasanton. There were countless highlights this season, far too many to name in a short recap. Next year, the team’s leaders will set their own expectations and strive to improve further within a winning system.
