Many of you may have heard of the TikTok ban, and perhaps the less noticed Capcut ban as well. The reason behind the ban is rumored to be about American people’s data being taken by the Beijing-based ByteDance and given to the Chinese government, as well as content being changed to alter American opinions. Capcut, sharing the same parent company, was also banned. You also may know that TikTok is back online, as well as Capcut. My main concern is when these bans will either be fully repealed or fully implemented, and what will happen to the apps when they are. If the ban is fully repealed, then it is likely things will return to normal. However, if the ban is fully implemented, then users will have to find new apps and find a way to save and download their creations.
As of right now, it seems the ban has been paused for 75 days as the government decides what to do. During this time, I would suggest for users to find a new app or two that they can switch to after the ban is gone through, if it is. They should definitely save or download their material or finish their WIP’s. This way they can post it (if they do), or save it for memories and future reference. I will list a few options for both TikTok and Capcut that people can move to in case the ban comes back.
The option I heard most for TikTok is Little Red Book, or 小红书. Apparently, many TikTok users
have moved to this app. Other mainstream social media such as Instagram, Youtube Shorts, or others are also quite similar in mechanism to TikTok.
As for Capcut, people use the app to accomplish quite different things. Many people edit and animate on the app, so I will be talking about replacements for these in specific. Editing softwares such as KineMaster, Filmora, or Adobe Premiere Rush may be good options. For animation, there are a few options for frame-by-frame: Flipaclip, Toontastic, Animation Desk, as well as other animation: Adobe After Effects, Animate, and Character Animator. One app I’ve seen used interchangeably or compared to CapCut is Alight Motion, so that’s another viable option.
Keep in mind that I have not used these apps, nor do I know exactly what they are for, all that I saw was that they are used for editing or animation, which is why I have listed them here. If there are other options, feel free to go for them instead. Most importantly, if you have any valuable material on any apps that are getting banned, try to finish and save it, as well as moving to another app if possible. I hope this helped suggest a few possible replacements for these apps.
